The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2023 on Monday, and it is a star-studded group. The three biggest names in the class are Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, and Tony Parker.
Nowitzki is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He spent his entire 21-year career with the Dallas Mavericks, and he led them to their only championship in 2011. Nowitzki was a 14-time All-Star, 12-time All-NBA selection, and 2007 NBA MVP. He is the all-time leading scorer in Mavericks history, and he is one of only two players to score 30,000 points in a career.
Gasol is another international great who made his mark in the NBA. He was born in Spain, and he played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls during his 18-year career. Gasol was a 6-time All-Star, 5-time All-NBA selection, and 2013 NBA Champion. He is the all-time leading scorer for the Spanish national team, and he is one of only two players to win the NBA championship and the EuroLeague championship.
Parker is a French point guard who won four NBA championships with the San Antonio Spurs. He was a 7-time All-Star, 6-time All-NBA selection, and 2007 NBA Finals MVP. Parker is the all-time leading scorer for the French national team, and he is one of only three players to win the NBA championship and the EuroLeague championship.
The other members of the Class of 2023 are:
- Kevin McHale, a Hall of Fame power forward who played for the Boston Celtics from 1980 to 1993.
- Bob Huggins, a Hall of Fame college basketball coach who led the University of Cincinnati to the NCAA championship in 1992 and 1993.
- Ann Meyers Drysdale, a Hall of Fame women's basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Sparks and Phoenix Mercury from 1979 to 1990.
- Tamika Catchings, a Hall of Fame women's basketball player who played for the Indiana Fever from 2001 to 2016.
- Becky Hammon, a women's basketball coach who is the first female assistant coach in NBA history.
The Class of 2023 will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on September 9, 2023.
